Hydrafacial Case Study

5 March 2026

Client background and why Hydrafacial

The client presented at Flourish Skin and Laser Clinic with dull, congested skin across the central face, visible blackheads through the nose and inner cheeks, and the kind of surface texture that made makeup sit badly by the middle of the day. A consistent home routine had plateaued. The concern was maintenance-tier, not corrective: no deep scarring, no laxity, no dermal pigmentation, just skin that had stopped looking fresh.

Hydrafacial is a hydradermabrasion treatment designed to cleanse, extract and hydrate the skin in a single pass of a patented handpiece. It combines a spiral-tip exfoliation with a mild glycolic and salicylic acid cleanse, vacuum-assisted extraction of follicular debris, and simultaneous infusion of water-based serums. For this client’s surface-level concerns, it was a reasonable fit: sitting between a manual facial and a light chemical peel.

The treatment plan

The plan was structured around a course of 1 treatment spaced normally 4 weeks apart. ( Or as recommended by the clinician.), with a booster selection tailored at each visit. A skin assessment preceded the first session to confirm suitability, review recent topical use, and rule out active inflammation, cold sore activity, recent isotretinoin, or any acid sensitivity. Retinoids and strong exfoliants were paused in the days leading up to each appointment. Broad-spectrum SPF 50+ was written into the home-care plan from day one.

The journey

Week 0 began with a standardised photograph under fixed studio conditions and a full intake. Each session followed the same rhythm. Double cleanse, hydropeel exfoliation with a glycolic and salicylic acid cleanser, vortex extraction through the central face with a softer setting across the cheeks, then a targeted booster infused into the freshly cleansed surface. Sessions typically ran 30 to 45 minutes, with no needles, no anaesthesia, and no piercing of the skin.

Across the scheduled photographs, the skin responded in the way Hydrafacial usually shows on the surface. In the first hour after each session, the skin looked briefly flushed and felt freshly cleansed. Over the following days, congestion loosened, blackhead appearance softened, and the skin held hydration more evenly. A brief purging phase was noted early in the course as deeper congestion was brought to the surface, which resolved within several days. Many clients on a similar treatment plan experience improvement in the appearance of dullness, congestion and surface texture, alongside a more hydrated finish that is usually most visible in the 24 to 72 hours after each session. Individual results vary, and the effects are temporary.

Maintenance and ongoing care

Following treatment, clients should take extra care to protect their skin from sun exposure and apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen daily. It is recommended to avoid active skin care products containing acids, exfoliants, or skin-brightening ingredients during the recovery period. Clients should focus on keeping the skin well hydrated and follow the post- treatment instructions provided by their clinician to support optimal healing and results.

What this means for people considering Hydrafacial

Hydrafacial is designed to address surface-level concerns: dullness, congestion, mild texture irregularity, and dehydration. It is not a treatment for deep lines, skin laxity, atrophic scarring, or dermal pigmentation, and the research supports it as a skin-quality maintenance treatment rather than a corrective one. Suitability depends on active skin conditions, recent cosmetic treatments, pregnancy status, isotretinoin use, and ingredient sensitivities, and is confirmed at consultation. The progression in this client’s captured photos reflects one response to one treatment plan. Your skin and response will be different.

Important information about this case study

Individual results vary. The images on this page show one client’s response to a specific treatment plan delivered at Flourish Skin and Laser Clinic. Your skin, concern, and response to treatment will be different.

Treatment performed: Hydrafacial, a hydradermabrasion treatment designed to cleanse, extract and hydrate the skin in a single pass via a patented Vortex-Fusion handpiece that combines mild acid exfoliation, vacuum extraction and serum infusion.

Clinician: Registered Nurse, Flourish Skin and Laser Clinic Sunnybank.

Common side effects disclosed at consultation include: mild redness for 0 to 24 hours, a “freshly cleansed” warmth or tightness, transient dryness, brief skin purging or small breakouts as congestion surfaces, mild flaking where a clarifying peel booster was used, 24 to 72 hours of sensitivity to active skincare, and rarer outcomes such as allergic reaction to a serum ingredient, cold sore reactivation in clients with a history, post-inflammatory pigmentation, or bruising. A full risk profile is reviewed with you in person before any treatment begins.

Suitability for Hydrafacial is determined during a clinical consultation. This case study is not a recommendation, diagnosis, or clinical guarantee. It is a factual record of one client’s treatment course, published with their written consent. The effects of Hydrafacial are temporary, and a maintenance schedule is discussed at consultation.
