MONO THREADS COLLAGEN, SUPPORTED THREAD BY THREAD

Fine absorbable PDO filaments designed to support collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production — a skin-quality treatment, not a thread lift.

SKIN-QUALITY THREADS, NOT A LIFT

You've been researching threads, and you've noticed the Brisbane market calls almost all of them "thread lifts". Most of what you've read describes barbed cog threads — a different category that grips and repositions tissue. MONO threads are not that. They are smooth, single-strand PDO filaments, placed in the skin to trigger the body's own collagen response. No hooks. No mechanical pull.
At Flourish Skin and Laser Clinic, MONO threads sit on our skin-quality menu, not our lifting menu. We offer them at Sunnybank as a biostimulation treatment — designed to support collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production over 3–6 months. If you're looking for mechanical lift, we'll tell you at consultation. Individual results vary.

HOW MONO THREADS WORK

A MONO thread is a fine, absorbable PDO suture — the same polymer used in surgical stitches for more than 30 years. Placed in the dermis through a cannulated needle, it acts as a controlled biological signal.

Collagen Signal

The thread is recognised by the skin as a biocompatible implant. This triggers a mild, self-limiting repair response — designed to recruit fibroblasts and support the production of new Type I and Type III collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid along the thread track.

Absorbed, But the Collagen Stays

Over roughly 6–8 months the PDO dissolves via hydrolysis into carbon dioxide and water. Nothing of the thread remains — but the collagen scaffold your body laid down around it does. That is what supports the skin-quality benefit. Individual results vary.

WHY CHOOSE MONO THREADS AT FLOURISH

MONO threads are a higher-risk non-surgical cosmetic procedure under AHPRA’s September 2025 guidelines. That means we treat the consultation as the most important part of the process — a full skin assessment, medical history, screening for suitability, and an honest conversation about whether threads are the right treatment for what you’re seeing. If they’re not, we will say so.

At Flourish, MONO threads are performed by a Registered Nurse with cosmetic-specific training, under our clinic’s medical oversight framework. Risks and side effects are discussed before anything is booked. Pricing is published below, starting from $150 for ten threads. Consultation fees are disclosed upfront before any booking. No pressure to proceed on the day.

FAQ

  • Is a MONO thread treatment the same as a thread lift?

No — and this matters. MONO threads are smooth, single-strand PDO filaments designed to support collagen production. They do not grip tissue and they do not reposition skin. Barbed “cog” threads are a different, more invasive category that physically anchors and pulls tissue. At Flourish Sunnybank we offer MONO threads only, and we frame them as a skin-quality treatment — not a non-surgical facelift. If mechanical lifting is what you’re looking for, we’ll discuss alternative pathways at consultation.

  • What are MONO threads made of, and are they ARTG-listed?

MONO threads are made from polydioxanone (PDO), an absorbable polymer used in surgical sutures for more than 30 years. Our MONO threads are supplied by their Australian sponsor and included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) as Class III medical devices. Specific brand and ARTG information is confirmed at consultation.

  • Does it hurt, and what's the downtime?

A topical anaesthetic is applied before the procedure, with local infiltration in some areas. Most clients describe the sensation as brief pressure rather than pain during insertion. Bruising at insertion points is common and usually settles within 3–10 days. Mild swelling, tenderness and a “tight” sensation are expected for 1–2 weeks. Strenuous exercise, saunas, facials, wide mouth-opening and dental procedures should be avoided for 1–2 weeks. Most people return to work the next day — visible bruising may persist for 3–7 days.

  • How many sessions will I need, and how long do results last?

A single session is typical for MONO threads. Results develop gradually, peaking at around 3–6 months as new collagen forms. The collagen benefit is commonly reported for 9–12 months. A booster session every 9–12 months is the most common maintenance interval. Individual results vary — the right plan for you is confirmed at consultation.

  • What are the risks?

MONO threads are classed as a higher-risk non-surgical cosmetic procedure by AHPRA. Expected side effects include bruising, swelling, tenderness and transient asymmetry. Less common effects include palpability of the thread under the skin, transient visibility in thin-skinned areas, and mild dimpling along a thread track. Rare but reportable risks include infection, thread extrusion, granuloma formation and allergic reaction. All risks are discussed in full before you proceed, and nothing is booked on the day of consultation unless you’re comfortable to do so.

  • Who can't have MONO threads?

MONO threads are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, for anyone with a known PDO allergy, active skin infection in the treatment area, keloid or hypertrophic scarring tendency, or active autoimmune skin disease in the area. Relative contraindications — which require clinical assessment — include autoimmune disease, bleeding disorders or anticoagulant therapy, recent dermal filler in the same plane, isotretinoin use, and metal implants in the treatment area. Please mention any of the above at consultation.

  • Who performs the treatment, and where?

MONO threads at Flourish are performed by a Registered Nurse with cosmetic-specific training, under our clinic’s medical oversight framework. The treatment is offered at our Sunnybank location only. Consultations are free and there is no pressure to proceed on the day.
