THERMAGE FLX: DEEP RF, ONCE A YEAR

A single-session monopolar radiofrequency treatment designed to support skin tightening — by stimulating your own collagen, deep in the dermis.

ONE SESSION A YEAR, AT DEPTH

Skin loses its spring gradually. You notice it in a Zoom thumbnail or a work photo — the jaw feels a little softer than it used to, the brow sits a little lower. Nothing worth filling. Nothing a moisturiser will reach. Thermage FLX works at the layer where that structure actually lives (the deeper dermis) and is designed to help it rebuild from within.
At Flourish Skin and Laser Clinic, Thermage FLX is offered at our Sunnybank location only. It's typically a single annual session, not a stacked course — which makes it a different kind of skin investment to most treatments on our menu. Your clinician will discuss whether it's the right option for your skin in consultation.

HOW IT WORKS: DEEP HEAT, COOLED SURFACE

Thermage FLX is a monopolar radiofrequency device. It passes a controlled RF current through a tip placed on the skin, travelling to a return pad on the body. The deeper dermis heats. The surface stays cool.

Volumetric Heating

Monopolar RF reaches the deep reticular dermis and the fibrous tissue just beneath — around 2.4 to 4.3 mm down, depending on the tip. Warming at that depth is designed to contract existing collagen and signal your fibroblasts to produce new collagen over the months that follow.

Surface Protection

A cryogen spray cools the skin before, during and after each pulse, while the handpiece vibrates to soften the sensation. AccuREP technology reads the skin’s impedance in real time and adjusts each pulse — designed to keep heating consistent across the treatment area.

WHY CHOOSE THERMAGE FLX AT FLOURISH

Thermage FLX has a brand-specific TGA listing — ARTG 302120, sponsored by Solta Medical Australia Pty Ltd — which means we can name the device and point to its regulatory record directly. Globally, Solta reports that more than five million Thermage treatments have been performed since the platform launched. It’s a well-established monopolar RF system. Individual suitability is assessed at your consultation.

Thermage is one of three RF modalities on the Flourish menu — different tools for different goals. Because it’s typically a single session with progressive results, we treat it as a once-a-year skin investment rather than a maintenance course. Published pricing is tiered by pulse count below. Your treatment is performed by our Registered Nurses.

FAQ

  • Is Thermage FLX suitable for me, and who is it designed for?

Thermage FLX is registered on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG 302120, sponsor Solta Medical Australia Pty Ltd, Class IIb). It’s generally considered for adults with mild-to-moderate skin laxity on the face, neck, eye area, décolletage or body. It isn’t suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with a pacemaker, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator or other implantable electrical device, with metal implants in the treatment area, or over active infection or inflammatory skin in the treatment area. Keloid tendency, recent isotretinoin, recent dermal filler in the area, very thin facial skin and certain autoimmune conditions require caution. Your clinician assesses suitability in your free consultation.

  • Does it hurt?

Many clients describe the pulse as a hot, stinging sensation that passes quickly. Thermage FLX is more comfortable than earlier generations — the handpiece vibrates during delivery and the cryogen spray cools the surface before and after each pulse. We don’t describe it as painless. Topical numbing is typically applied 30–45 minutes beforehand, and your clinician can pace the session to your tolerance.

  • What's the downtime?

Many clients return to work the same day or the next morning. Expect mild-to-moderate redness, warmth and some swelling (more pronounced around the eyes if the Eye Tip is used), generally settling within 24–72 hours. Mild, transient numbness or tenderness can persist for a few days. SPF 50+ is part of the post-treatment protocol.

  • How many sessions will I need?

Thermage FLX is typically a single session. That’s part of what makes it different to most treatments on our menu. A maintenance session may be recommended every 12–24 months depending on your individual response, discussed at your review. Individual results vary.

  • How does Thermage FLX compare to the other RF treatments you offer?

Flourish offers three different RF modalities — they work differently and suit different goals. Thermage FLX is monopolar RF, heating deeper and more evenly, typically a single annual session. Bipolar RF (Forma, MiniFX) warms the surface-to-mid dermis with shorter pulses and is more surface-targeted, delivered as a course. RF microneedling (Morpheus 8 at Sunnybank, Quadessy RF Needling at Toowong) delivers RF into the dermis through fine needles for more pronounced remodelling, also as a course. Different tools, different goals. Your clinician matches the right option to your skin in consultation.

  • Are there risks I should know about?

Expected effects include transient redness, swelling, warmth and tenderness. Less common effects include small bruising, temporary numbness or altered sensation. Rare risks include surface burns or blisters, localised fat atrophy or contour irregularity (more likely in thin-skinned patients if excessive energy is delivered — modern protocols have materially reduced this), transient nerve irritation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in deeper skin tones. No cosmetic treatment is risk-free. Your clinician will cover the full risk profile and suitability in your free consultation.

  • I've had dermal filler recently. Can I still have Thermage?

A buffer of at least two weeks between recent filler and Thermage is the common clinical recommendation. Repeated or high-intensity RF over fresh filler may shorten its duration. Your clinician will ask about recent injectables at consultation and plan the timing with you.

  • Who performs the treatment?

Thermage FLX at Flourish is performed by our Registered Nurses, trained specifically on the device. Your clinician covers the consent process, the risks and the aftercare at your consultation.
