Vascular IPL Calmer, Clearer-Looking Skin
Light-based treatment designed to reduce the appearance of facial redness, broken capillaries and rosacea-related flushing — at Sunnybank, performed by our Registered Nurses.

Redness That Doesn't Settle Down
How It Works: Light, Haemoglobin, And The Vessel
Vascular IPL uses filtered broadband light in a range preferentially absorbed by haemoglobin — the red pigment inside the blood vessels that cause visible redness. The light is absorbed, converted to controlled heat, and the vessel wall shrinks and closes over the following days.
Targets The Vessel, Not The Surface
The filter on the handpiece shapes the light so most of the energy reaches haemoglobin in the vessels beneath your skin. Surrounding tissue is largely spared — the clinical principle is called selective photothermolysis.

Different From Hair Removal IPL
Hair removal IPL targets melanin inside the follicle. Vascular IPL targets haemoglobin inside visible blood vessels. Same device family, different filters, different indication — and performed on different protocols.

Why Choose Flourish For Vascular IPL
Facial redness rarely has one cause. Some vessels are surface telangiectasia. Some sit alongside rosacea. Some follow years of sun exposure in a Brisbane climate. Your Registered Nurse will examine the vessels, ask about your triggers, and confirm whether vascular IPL is the right match — or whether a different modality or referral is more appropriate for your skin.
Our IPL platform is included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods and operated by Registered Nurses who have completed manufacturer-certified training in vascular IPL. Consultations are free and prices are published in full. If vascular IPL isn’t suitable, we’ll say so — and point you towards what is. Individual results vary.

FAQ
Is vascular IPL the same as IPL for hair removal?
No. The device family is related, but the filters, settings and target are different. Hair removal IPL targets melanin in the hair follicle. Vascular IPL targets haemoglobin in visible blood vessels. They’re booked as separate treatments, with different protocols, session counts and aftercare. Your consultation confirms which is appropriate.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe the sensation as a quick, warm rubber-band snap against the skin. It’s generally tolerable without numbing. Topical numbing cream is available as an add-on for $50 if you prefer. The cheeks and nose tend to feel more than the forehead.
How many sessions will I need?
Typically three to five sessions for visible redness and broken capillaries, or five to seven sessions for rosacea-associated redness. Sessions are spaced four to six weeks apart. An annual maintenance session is commonly recommended. Your Registered Nurse will map out a realistic plan at consultation. Individual results vary.
What's the downtime?
Minimal. Expect mild redness, warmth and slight swelling for a few hours. Treated vessels can briefly look darker or slightly rust-coloured for one to two weeks as they clear — this is normal, not a worsening. Avoid hot showers, sauna, heavy exercise and direct sun for forty-eight hours.
Who isn't suitable for vascular IPL?
Pregnancy, recent tanning or active sun damage, active skin infection, photosensitising medication, anticoagulant therapy, keloid-scarring history and a course of isotretinoin in the last six months are all reasons to pause or reconsider. Darker skin types (Fitzpatrick V–VI) are generally better served by long-pulse Nd:YAG laser — we’ll refer on where appropriate. Larger or deeper leg veins usually need sclerotherapy.
Will it cure my rosacea?
No. Rosacea is a chronic condition. Vascular IPL is designed to reduce the appearance of the visible redness and small vessels associated with it — but new vessels can form and flushing can return. Ongoing trigger management and maintenance sessions are part of a long-term plan. Individual results vary.
Who performs the treatment?
Every session is performed by one of our Registered Nurses, who have completed manufacturer-certified training in vascular IPL. Our platform is included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods. For more complex rosacea, we’re happy to co-manage with your GP or dermatologist.
