Sensitive Skin & Compromised Barrier
Stinging at water, tightness, diffuse pink. Most reactive skin is a barrier pushed past what it can handle. We slow things down before adding anything.

What We Can Help
Reactivity & Stinging
Skin that reads pink and stings on water, products or heat.
Dryness & Tightness
A tight, flaking surface with reduced tolerance of usual products.
Over-Treated Skin
A barrier disrupted by stacked actives, peels or at-home exfoliation.
Post-Procedure Recovery
Skin recovering from recent laser, peel or needling done elsewhere.

The Gentle Approach to a Reactive Barrier
A compromised barrier rarely needs more treatment. It usually needs less, done in the right order. At Flourish Skin & Laser Clinic, our Registered Nurses start with your routine, screen for any condition that belongs with a GP, and only then introduce non-irritating, barrier-supportive treatments designed to support calmer skin over time.
Why Our Sensitive Skin Results Are Different
Routine Before Device
Most reactive skin needs a simplified home-care reset first. We tell you that upfront, even when it means delaying in-clinic work.
Non-Irritating Options Only
Nothing ablative, thermal or fractional on a reactive barrier. LDM Noblesse, calming Hydrafacial, enzyme peels and Rejuran where suitable.
Honest Triage
If eczema, psoriasis, perioral dermatitis or severe rosacea is suspected, we ask you to see a GP or dermatologist first.

FAQ
How do I know if my skin is sensitive or my barrier is compromised?
Sensitive skin is a long-term tendency. A compromised barrier is a current state, and can happen to any skin type. Signs overlap: tightness, stinging, diffuse pink, flaking and reduced tolerance of products. If the reactivity is newer than your skin, a compromised barrier is the more likely explanation. A consultation with a Registered Nurse can help map which pattern you are in.
Should I see a GP or dermatologist before booking?
If we suspect eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, a severe rosacea flare or a contact allergy, yes. Diagnosis and any Schedule 4 prescription care (such as topical corticosteroids, ivermectin or oral antibiotics) belongs with your GP or dermatologist. We work alongside their plan.
What should I stop using right now?
As a general starting point, pause retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C and at-home peels while the barrier settles. Keep a gentle cleanser, a ceramide-rich moisturiser and daily SPF 50+. Your clinician will map a specific routine at consultation.
Are stronger peels or ablative lasers ever the right answer for sensitive skin?
Not on a reactive or compromised barrier. Ablative laser, fractional resurfacing, Jessner peels and TCA peels drive inflammation that sensitive skin is already struggling with. Those treatments may eventually be appropriate once the barrier is stable, and only after a full consultation.
How long before I see improvement?
A simplified home-care reset often shows change in 4 to 8 weeks. In-clinic barrier-supportive treatment builds across several sessions, usually over 2 to 4 months. Chronic conditions need ongoing maintenance. Individual results vary.
Will LDM Noblesse or Hydrafacial flare me up?
They are designed to be non-irritating and are generally well-tolerated on sensitive skin. Suitability is assessed at consultation, and any Hydrafacial booster selection is adjusted or skipped for reactive skin. Individual results vary.
Why does my skin sting now when it never used to?
A barrier that has been pushed past what it can handle (often by over-exfoliation, stacked actives, sun damage or a recent aggressive treatment) loses some of its lipid mortar. Water escapes faster, irritants get in more easily, and nerves in the upper skin become more reactive to ordinary stimuli like water and mild acids. The change is usually a state, not a new skin type.
Can I still treat my skin if I have rosacea or eczema?
Often yes, alongside your GP or dermatologist’s plan. Diagnosis and any prescription care sit with them. Once a flare is settled, non-irritating in-clinic options like LDM Noblesse and a calming Hydrafacial protocol are often considered to support calmer skin between flares. Individual results vary.
